Syrrako-Chrousias River-Kalarrytes

Difficulty level:Easy hiking trip. Open to beginners. Duration: hours (not including return trip). Altitude variations: -300, +200m. The trail is clearly delineated, and may be sheer in some places but is by no means rough. It features extensive cobblestoned sections and safety rails.

St. Georgios-Kouiasa Bridge-Kipina Monastery

Difficulty level:Easy hiking trip.Open to beginners.Duration: 1-1:30 hours (not including return trip). Altitude variations: -400m. The trail follows a downward path and passes through the Pantza forest. Sections of the path have been paved with cobblestones, while after the Kouiasa Bridge and up to the monastery the road has been paved. The keys to the monastery can be requested from the coffee house in the nearby village of Kipina.

Syrrako-Pouliana-Kouiasa Bridge-Kalarrytes

Difficulty Level: Easy hiking trip. Open to beginners.Duration: 2-2:30 hours (not including return trip). Altitude variations: -370 + 300m. This is a downhill trip which passes through the Pantza forest. Sections of the path have been paved with cobblestones. After arriving at the Kouiasa bridge, hikers must follow the path which leads to the Kalarrytes access stairs and the village center.

Syrrako-Chrousias River-Kalarrytes-Syrrako -Chousias Springs

Difficulty level: Easy hiking trip. Open to beginners.Duration: 2-2:30 hours (not including return trip).Altitude variations: +100 meters.

Syrrako "Kalarrytes" Matsouki

Difficulty level: Intermediate hiking trip. Duration: 3-3:30 hours (not including return trip). Altitude variations: -300, +200, -400, +300m. The Syrrako-Kalarrytes route is the same as the one described above, and the trip to the village of Matsouki is its continuation. This trip is better suited for more seasoned hikers, rewarding participants with truly stunning views of nature. Hikers can also visit the Vyliza Monastery, which is located a short distance from Matsouki.

Syrrako "Chapel of the Holy Apostles" Priza Summit

Difficulty level: Intermediate hiking trip. Duration: 3-3:30 hours (not including return trip). Altitude variations: +550 (until the Holy Apostles), +300m. This trail consists of dirt trails and dirt roads. Before arriving at the chapel, hikers will encounter a spring with potable water. Alternatively, visitors can reach the other peaks of mt. Lakmos, the highest of which is Tsoukarela (2294 m.), located at the mountain range's center. The other peaks are located in a circular shape around it: Kalogeros (2102 m.) and Giannake (2184 m.) to the north, Stakokkala (2045 m.) to the east, Priza (2047 m.) and Gkourasa (2185 m.) to the west and Pyramida (2144 m.) and Megas Trapos (2240 m.) to the South. Winter conditions: This mountain range is ideal for winter hikes, with mountaineering equipment. Dangers: As is the case with all mountains in Greece, the most common hazard is sheepdogs. Hikers are therefore advised to stay away from livestock pens and herds of animals.

 

Rafting-Kayak

Arachthos 1: Charokopi Bridge (Tsimbovo)-Plaka Bridge. Duration: 3:30 hours. Difficulty level: IV w.w. Rafting route for experienced rafters.

Arachthos 2: Ampelochori Bridge (Politsa)-Plaka Bridge. Duration: 2 hours. Difficulty level: III w.w. Rafting route which does not require previous experience.

Άραχθος 3: Plaka Bridge-Skoupa Bridge Duration: 2 hours.Difficulty level:III w.w. Rafting route which does not require previous experience.

Kalarrytikos:Michalitsi Bridge-Plaka Bridge.  Duration: 3 to 3:30 hours. Difficulty level: III w.w.-IV w.w. A highly technical rafting route, meant for experienced rafters.

Canyoning

Stavraetos:

Difficulty level: Intermediate difficulty for participants of average physical condition, ability to swim, ability to jump into water from a height of 2 meters and ability to carry backpacks with their personal equipment. Duration: 4-4:30 hours. Entrance is located immediately after the entrance to the village, beneath the first stone bridge visitors encounter. There are 7 rappels and various smaller descents which can be navigated by jumping or sliding. The largest of the route?s waterfalls is 50 meters tall and can be traversed safely. It is located about halfway through the gorge. This gorge begins with minor rappels, which for the most part do not exceed 15 meters in height. Exit at the Chousias River and ascent from the right-hand riverbank until the bridge which connects Syrrako and Kalarrytes. The ascending path is cobbled from this point until Syrrako.

Pyli Paradeisou (Heaven's Gate):

Difficulty level: Intermediate difficulty for participants of average physical condition, swimming ability, ability to jump into water from a height of 2 meters and ability to carry backpacks with their personal equipment. Duration: 6 ώρες. + 1-1:30 ώρες 6 hours. +1-1:30 hour hike. This is the most impressive gorge of the Tzoumerka mountain range, and one of Greece's most beautiful. Its entrance is located just before Kalarrytes, while its exit is near the Kipina Monastery. It joins with the Chrousias at the headwaters of the Kalarrytikos River. The locals know it as Carlibou, and it contains a large amount of water. A short, 15-minute walk in its bed leads to the first of eight descents, three of which can be jumped. A landslide has made necessary the addition of a final descent. At the bottom, when hikers encounter the Kalarrytikos, they can choose to head either left for the Kipina Monastery or right, against the river. The latter route leads to the steel bridge for Kalarrytes after a 1:30 hour ascent.

Jeeping

A unique and exciting way to explore the natural environment and mountain ranges around Syrrako, but also the municipality of North Tzoumerka is through the countless rural and provincial roads with 4x4 vehicles. Breathtaking routes will instill feelings of awe in any visitor, through the constant transitions between images of sheer gorges, mountain ranges, waterfalls and old bridges.
